Where We Install

Areas We Serve in Horry County

From oceanfront hotel towers to inland subdivisions, we have installed in every Grand Strand community and know the HOA requirements, wind zones, and code specifics for each.

Myrtle Beach
Grand Strand epicenter — oceanfront towers, investment condos, Grande Dunes estates, and Market Common urban village. Systems calibrated to each property type’s specific engineering requirements.
North Myrtle Beach
Four distinct communities — Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach, Windy Hill. Each with its own housing stock, ownership profile, and exposure conditions requiring specific approaches.
Surfside Beach & Garden City
Surfside’s “Family Beach” owner-occupied character and Garden City’s high-density rental inventory. Durability vs. deployment speed — we match the system to the ownership profile.
Conway
Horry County seat with historic downtown along the Waccamaw River. Hurricane Floyd (1999) and Florence (2018) produced catastrophic flooding — inland surge risk is a primary design consideration.
Little River
ICW waterfront and marina district — one of the most corrosive hardware environments in northern Horry County. Marine-grade aluminum and stainless packages on every waterfront installation.
Carolina Forest
Fast-growing master-planned HOA communities — Waterbridge, Plantation Lakes, Berkshire Forest, The Farm. Submittal packages that satisfy HOA standards and county wind zone requirements simultaneously.
Grande Dunes
Grand Strand’s premier luxury development. Motorized rolldowns with smart-home integration. HOA architectural standards require pre-approval submittals built into the project schedule from day one.
Socastee & Loris
Inland Horry County where coastal wind zone designations still apply with genuine engineering force. Full Design Pressure analysis on every property at accessible price points.
Murrells Inlet & Pawleys Island
Southern Horry/Georgetown County. Marsh Creek fishing village character and Pawleys Island historic beach homes. Bahama and colonial systems for the Lowcountry aesthetic.
Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions — Horry County Hurricane Shutters

Serving Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Conway & Surfside. For more, see the full AHS FAQ page.

Pricing ranges from $26/sq ft for aluminum storm panels to $70/sq ft for articulating Bahama shutters. Accordion shutters start at $38/sq ft installed. We offer free, no-obligation quotes and flexible payment plans. Use our cost calculator for an instant estimate.
While not always mandatory, South Carolina insurance carriers offer significant “Wind Mitigation Credits” for certified impact protection. A professional AHS installation can often pay for itself over time through reduced premiums.
Yes. We specialize in retrofitting hurricane shutters for high-rise condominiums. We work with COAs to provide bulk pricing and uniform installation standards for buildings in Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, and Arcadian Shores. Recent projects include Arcadian I and II in Myrtle Beach and Reflections in Garden City.
With Accordion or Roll-Down shutters, a property can be secured in 15–30 minutes. This is ideal for Saturday turn-days in Garden City and Surfside Beach when a storm is approaching and property managers have limited time between guests.
Absolutely. We offer custom powder-coating to match any specific RAL color required by the Grande Dunes ARB, ensuring your protection blends seamlessly with your Mediterranean or stucco facade.
While possible, it is risky in our coastal wind zones. Hurricane protection must be engineered to SC Building Code wind-load standards. Professional installation ensures fasteners are anchored correctly into your specific siding. DIY installations often void insurance credits and may not meet Horry County Building Department requirements.
Hurricane Ian (2022) made landfall near Georgetown, bringing significant storm surge and wind damage to Garden City and Cherry Grove. Hurricane Matthew (2016) and Florence (2018) also caused widespread flooding in Conway and Socastee. Because the Grand Strand is a magnet for tropical systems, we advise residents to secure protection well before peak season.

The team installed kevlar enforced rollup hurricane screens all around our porch 5 years ago. We purchased them because a relative has them and was very pleased. We live right on the water near the mouth of the Neuse River in Oriental so they get tested regularly. They’ve protected our house through tropical storms, snow storms and hurricanes. They’ve held up and continue to work well. They weren’t inexpensive, but well worth the money through our experience. We highly recommend them!

I am very pleased with my new white hurricane shutters that can easily be pulled shut even from indoors in case of really windy weather. These are so much more practical than the heavy metal shutters we had to install for strong storms and then remove again in order to see out.

I had an excellent experience with American Hurricane Shutters! Mr. Burns met us promptly at our convenience to explain his array of products. We chose the accordion style hurricane shutters for our Ocean front side. I was notified in a timely fashion when they were about to arrived and allowed to pick a convenient date for installation at our house on Wrightsville Beach NC. The installers were kind enough to wait for us to come after they were finished do demonstrate their function. I tore a rotator cuff trying to close our 30 yr old rusty shutters and now can close these just using my finger tips! I highly recommend this company.

Great experience. Had an issue with the manufacturer's finish a year later, and they replaced the hurricane shutter without question. The installation was thorough as we expected the first time, but many businesses attempt to evade warranty work or address their problems once they've received their payment. Not here. 100% recommended. Was an excellent option for our home in Surf City.

The AHS team did a great job for us. We were not in town for much of the planning and installation, so placed lots of trust in their team. The communication was great, the work exceptional, and they followed up promptly on small issues until everything was complete. I would highly recommend.

Built to Exceed Horry County Wind Loads

Horry County spans the Grand Strand from the Cherry Grove and North Myrtle beaches through Myrtle Beach to the inland communities around Conway. Under ASCE 7-16, the basis for the South Carolina Building Code (2021 IBC/IRC with state amendments), the ultimate design wind speed here runs roughly 140 mph and up depending on location (Risk Category II). The area sits within the Wind-Borne Debris Region, where the code requires protected openings — so hurricane shutters are a code requirement here, not just a precaution.

We treat that figure as a floor, not a target. Before installing, AHS performs a site-specific design pressure analysis for your Horry County property — accounting for the home’s height, exposure, roof geometry, and the loads each opening will actually see — and engineers every installation to exceed those numbers rather than simply meet code.
