What roll-downs cost in Myrtle Beach, and the arithmetic that justifies the motor

Roll-down hurricane shutters in Myrtle Beach are $52/sq ft installed for the manual crank version. A pulldown pole instead of a crank is $400 more per opening. An electric motor is $700 more per opening. The rate includes the curtain, the head box, side tracks, stainless anchors, the Horry County permit and a per-opening design pressure calculation.

This is the one product where the Grand Strand rental economy changes the answer outright. A motorized system closes from a wall switch, a remote or a phone, so an owner in Ohio and a manager holding keys to forty units can both secure a property without standing in front of it. The second case is the oceanfront elevation. Most Strand properties we do are mixed: roll-downs on the ocean side, accordions or panels on the rest. We quote it that way deliberately rather than pricing the whole building at the top rate.

We do not fit battery backup. The units are temperamental and useless without frequent recharging, and a backup that has been sitting flat since the last named storm is not a backup. Every motorized roll-down we install comes with a manual override crank instead — mechanical, nothing to charge, and it works during the outage.
